Trinity Rudolph is a junior nursing major and Spanish minor at Kent State University. She works as a nurse tech on a postpartum floor and serves as the Social Media Director for the Kent State Interdisciplinary Health Research Organization.

Q: Why did you choose Kent State University?

A: I chose Kent State because I was impressed by how organized the curriculum is. The advisors worked with me to create a schedule that allowed me to pursue my Spanish minor alongside my nursing degree, so I didn’t have to give up learning a second language.

Q: What did you learn about how nurses can lead policy discussions as part of an interdisciplinary team?

A: Nurses play a unique and vital role in healthcare, giving them a valuable perspective on patient care and hospital systems. Despite this, they are often underrepresented in policy discussions. I believe that by having a stronger voice in policy, nurses could drive meaningful reform and help reshape the way we approach healthcare in the United States.

Q: How do you believe healthcare policy will affect your practice as a new nurse?

A: Healthcare policies within the hospital will directly impact my ability to ensure both my own safety and the safety of my patients. In addition, policies at the federal, state, and local levels influence social determinants of health, which can significantly affect patient outcomes. These policies have the power to either improve or worsen the health of individuals, depending on how they address these key factors.
